Adelson Continues Anti-Online Gambling Campaign


Sheldon Adelson’s Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling went very quiet after a congressional hearing on online gambling last month when they were called hypocrites by two members of Congress. However, the Coalition seems to be making a move back into the public sphere.

The Coalition is attempting to have the Department of Justice’s opinion on the 1961 Wire Act changed yet again, this time so that it contains language which clearlybans all types of online gambling, poker and lotteries.

 

However, gambling fans don’t need to worry. There are a few reasons why Adelson is unlikely to succeed.

The most important reason is that there is absolutely no support for the move in Congress.

Secondly, at the recent National Council of Legislators from Gaming States meeting, the head of the American Gaming Association, Geoff Freeman, very clearly stated that the AGA is against Adelson’s campaign, “We appreciate Las Vegas Sands’ support of our organization and their membership, but we strongly oppose their approach to internet gaming.” Freeman went on to say that the AGA is focused on the prevention of prohibition in the online gambling industry.

It seems that Adelson has given himself an impossible task, so online gambling fans can breathe a sigh of relief and get back to their games.
