Dear Readers,

Natalia Baevska

The globalization of the economy and the advancement of new technologies have radically changed our life style. The Internet is already offering services that were earlier inaccessible by the average consumer- this has triggered innovative changes in the gaming industry as well. The new technologies have also entered the sector of gaming systems and gaming equipment. New marketing approaches and concepts have opened the doors to global audiences, removing previous limitations of geographical location. Online gaming and online betting have become ever more popular on the internet. Eastern Europe and the Balkans have taken their worthy place on the map of the gaming industry in the recent years and online games have become a part of our life, in conformity with the global trend.

The recent, first, Balkan Entertainment and Gaming Expo (BEGE) and the attending first Eastern European Gaming Summit recorded a high interest in new technologies, internet gaming and online betting. According to a unanimous opinion of the participants, the Balkan region is acquiring an ever growing importance both among the operators of the traditional casinos and the operators of online games and betting. With this in mind, in the second edition of Game Spectrum we have compiled a series of publications that present various different aspects and points of view about this new, and growing, sector in the gaming industry.

In this issue we will also present, in detail, the developments which occurred during the first Balkan Entertainment and Gaming Expo and the first Eastern European Gaming Summit, both of which took place in Sofia this autumn, provoking a broad response from the numerous manufacturers and operators in the region, as well as international investors.
