12/07/11 – As part of the European Parliament’s own-initiative report on the European Commission’s Green Paper on online gambling, which will be adopted by the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO), the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) will submit its own draft opinion. Amongst others, the text, drafted by MEP Sophie Auconie (EPP, France), calls for the establishment of a European Agency for Integrity and Fair Play in Sport. The text will be voted by ECON after the summer break and will then be formally submitted to IMCO.

 

11/07/11 – As part of the ongoing review of the 3rd Anti-Money Laundering Directive (2005/60/EEC), the European Commission will be looking into ways to adopt a consistent approach across the online and land-based gambling sectors. The Commission is expected to present its proposal by autumn 2012.

 

07/07/11 – The European Commission issued a detailed opinion on the Greek draft law ‘Regulation of the gaming market – games of chance played on gaming machines or online', thereby extending the standstill period of the TRIS notification procedure. The bill has also received a detailed opinion from Malta and comments from the UK. In the meantime, the Greek government has submitted the text to the Parliament. The standstill period in the Commission will now run until 8 August 2011.
