Beacon Bingo sponsors world record female Sumo champion

Europe’s biggest bingo club, the 2,700 capacity Beacon Bingo in Cricklewood, London,  has agreed to sponsor the world’s heaviest sportswoman, champion Sumo wrestler, and regular Beacon Bingo player, Sharran Alexander.

52-year old Sharran, who was named heaviest sportswoman in 2012 by the Guinness Book of World Records, when she weighed 448lb, has a trophy cabinet fit to bursting with medals and trophies that she’s won since she started competing in Sumo, a decade ago.
Clocking up the air miles with competitions in  Hong Kong, the USA, India, China, Switzerland, Estonia, Holland and Germany, Sharran’s latest trip – the first to be sponsored by Beacon Bingo – took place in Italy at the Milano Sumo Open on June 3rd, where she won a bronze medal in the heavyweight category.

At a special photo opportunity to launch the heavyweight sponsorship, Sharran said: “I love going to Beacon Bingo in Cricklewood and have been a customer since it first opened in 1996, so knowing they are behind me and for them to sponsor me means a lot. I hope I do them proud.”

Craig White, deputy manager for Beacon Bingo in Cricklewood said: “Sharran is a longtime and loyal customer, so when we first heard about the tournament we really wanted to get involved and support her as much as we could. We look forward to following Sharran’s progress and cheering her on!”
