24/05/11 – The European Commission delivered its opinion in two state aid cases against Greece. In one decision, the European Commission found that the lower taxation of admissions in state owned casinos is unlawful aid and it creates fiscal discrimination in favour of the public sector. In the other decision, the European Commission concluded that the sale of the Greek State of its 49% stake in Casino Mont Parnès  did not involve state aid, therefore it did not violate market rules.

 

27/05/11 – A new report on online gambling was submitted to the French parliament proposing amendments to the current regulations. The proposed changes include the replacement of the turnover tax with a 20% gross profit tax, a 10% point raise in the maximum payout ratio and an express ban on betting exchanges. ARJEL, the French Online Gambling Regulator is expected to give its opinion by June.
