05/06/12 The European Sports Security Association (ESSA), the licensed private industry’s betting integrity body, has released its statistics for 2011, which show only a small number of betting corruption alerts. According to ESSA, there were 69 alerts, which following detailed examination, led to 8 referrals of subscription betting patterns to the relevant sport governing and gambling regulatory authorities.

05/06/12 – Following the official entry into force (on 1 June 2012) of the new online gaming licensing regime in Spain, 91 general licences and 186 singular licences have so far been issued to 53 companies out of the 59 which applied. According to the Spanish gaming regulator, 3 additional general licenses and 5 singular licences are still under consideration. The official list with the names of the licensed operators will be published by 15 June. Spain’s sanction regime against unlicensed operators will then enter into force making any unlicensed website subject to closure and fines.

 

03/06/12 – The newly formed coalition government of the German State of Schleswig-Holstein has confirmed its plans to cease the issuance of betting licenses. The coalition of Social Democrats, Greens and the Danish Minority Party (SSW) also announced that it will examine the possibility of lifting Schleswig-Holstein’s own Gambling Act and join the Federal Interstate Treaty on Gambling.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

 07/06/12 – The Norwegian government has granted stated-owned company Norsk Tipping approval to include electronic bingo, online scratch cards, casinos and social games to its live sports betting offer. According to the country’s Ministry of Culture, unlicensed offshore gambling currently generates around 5 billion kroner (approximately 660 million Euros) every year. The consent follows an earlier authorisation of the betting monopoly to offer in-play sports betting.
